Whilst scanning the archives I came across a folklore story from down the road in Tredington.
The story is titled Witch creeps through the keyhole in cat form and her name was Old Bessie.
It is said that Old Bessie was not invited to a party and wanted to get revenge on those who did go.
She presented herself as a cat, but was recognised straight away and was wounded in the right paw with a pitchfork, she made off through the keyhole. The next morning, when the old lady had taken her true form, she is said to have had an injury in her right hand, one of which she suffered with until her death.
So, Old Bessie – are you local to Tredington, have you ever heard that story?
